Overview
This initiative, led by the Barnett College of Ministry and Theology and the Global Pentecostalism Center at Southeastern University, aims to help the Church better serve and support people with disabilities and their families. It focuses on teaching the biblical understanding of disability and the Church’s role in advocating for and loving those with unique abilities. The symposium will discuss over-generalized views of ableism and teach what healthy community integration with people who have disabilities looks like. By participating, local pastors will gain a deeper, more complete understanding of healing, which will help them address questions and concerns about how to support this community in their ministry. Funds for the Ableism Project will be used to develop educational materials, host symposiums, and create resources to equip the Church in understanding and addressing ableism.
Faculty quote
