Overview
Community Night is an annual event that is developed and implemented by undergraduate social work students within the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. Through cross collaboration, experiential and student led learning, some of the world's most relevant topics are explored, researched, and discussed through national and international experts and uniquely qualified leaders who might not otherwise have been introduced to Southeastern University. Additionally, Community Night has a far-reaching impact as SEU students are extending Christ's hospitality by inviting and offering a sense of learning, care, and concern not only to the college campus but to the community at large. From talking about responsible volunteering both domestically and abroad with Convoy of Hope; understanding the impact of mental health on college-aged students with former Cincinnati Bengals chaplain, LaMorris Crawford; identifying with author David Magee on the opioid overdose of his son; or listening to Indigenous leaders of the Seminole, Mohawk, and Cheyenne tribal nations regarding missing indigenous women, attendees are exposed and challenged to respond to difficult issues through a Christian lens.
Student Quote
“Such an amazing course. I never truly knew what working in a group was like in a professional capacity. I learned so much from this course that applies to professionalism, committee collaboration, and planning events. Not to mention the knowledge gained from this year's community night topic. [The social work with communities and organizations course] allows grace, structure, and dreams to move in such synchronicity.” -- Bachelor of Social Work Student
